A critical role during the coronavirus crisis

Category : News

We’re part of a group providing the energy that our country needs.

SSE’s main priority is to support the safe and reliable supply of electricity, on which the people and organisations whose work is critical to the Covid-19 response depend. At the same time, it is committed to supporting its workforce and wider communities with the challenges they face.

For SSE Business Energy, this has meant getting all of our colleagues enabled to work from home, so that they can carry on providing the services we know our customers will continue to need.

To help organisations looking for the right energy solutions to power forward, our teams are producing quotes and issuing contracts. Emergency new connections are going ahead where supplies fitted are essential to providing key services.

And our advisers are talking to customers running businesses that are closed due to the pandemic, to find out how it’s affecting them individually and what we can do to support. If you’re worried about being able to pay your bills, our FAQ here contains information on where to go for help.

In my last update, I highlighted that transitioning to homeworking means that new solutions are necessary to keep our phone lines and other processes running.

As we make this transition to supporting you in new ways for the foreseeable future, we’ll continue you to ask you to use email or our online services where possible. Our phone lines are open, and we’ve enabled more colleagues to provide phone support to you remotely. However, you may experience longer than usual waiting times if you do call us.

Meter readers are not visiting sites currently but emergency metering work is going ahead. Where we can’t progress critical work remotely, we’ll work with our contract partners to ensure work is progressed safely, in line with guidance, and that we’re sensitive to the needs and concerns of the communities that we serve.

Given this situation, please provide meter readings to give us an accurate record of how much electricity or gas your business is – or isn’t – using during lockdown. We advise you to submit these now and every month until the government lifts restrictions. Find out the ways you can submit meter readings here.

We’ll keep adapting our activity in response to what is clearly an evolving situation. For the latest information, check this website and our FAQ.
