Businesses can scale up sustainably and responsibly

Category : Better business

That’s the message from SSE Business Energy at the Festival of Enterprise.

We’re thrilled to be one of the headline sponsors of the Festival of Enterprise. Free for entrepreneurs and start-up leaders, the event dedicated to fast growth and scaling up takes place this October at the NEC in Birmingham. We want to meet and work with businesses seeking to ensure they operate sustainably and responsibly as they grow.

One way that a business can be more responsible is through its energy use, ensuring that it comes from sustainable and renewable sources. We’ve recently launched SSE Green Gas, a new product offering companies the option to upgrade to 100% renewable gas, adding to our existing SSE Green Electricity product.

We’ve also developed a seven-step approach to energy efficiency, based on our experience supporting companies through their energy management journey. The process is designed to help businesses hit and maintain their energy efficiency targets, enabling them to cut their carbon footprint and their energy bills at the same time.

Aled Humphreys, Director of SSE Business Energy, says: “We’ll be promoting our support for enterprises growing responsibly. This approach is about more than energy usage. It’s about embedding a culture of sustainability that runs throughout an organisation.

“Embracing more responsible business practices and thinking more ethically about all the areas in society that a business touches is a big part of our approach. As part of this, we’re proud to be a Living Wage Employer, as well as being the first FTSE 100 company to be accredited with the prestigious Fair Tax Mark.

“Research shows that demonstrating a commitment to sustainability can enhance a company’s reputation and help it stand out from competitors. So as well as being good for people and the planet, running your business responsibly helps build your brand and lays solid foundations for growth.”

James Ashwood, Managing Director of the Festival of Enterprise, comments that: “Evidence from an 18-year study by Harvard Business School shows that being responsible has a positive impact on business growth. Companies with a more responsible culture outperform other businesses both in long-term financial performance and stock market growth.

“That’s why we are delighted to be working with SSE Business Energy. Between us, we can present a positive case to business owners. Scaling up in a responsible way is realistic, and SSE Business Energy has resources that demonstrate how to go about achieving this. SSE Business Energy is an excellent partner both for the Festival of Enterprise and for our audience of business owners and entrepreneurs. I’m delighted to have their support.”

The Festival of Enterprise takes place 23-24 October 2019 at the NEC Birmingham.

Come and meet us at stand E34. You can pick up valuable insight from John Abbott, Smart Programme Director at SSE, who’ll be speaking at the ‘Scale up & Business leaders’ stage on Wednesday 23 October from 12.30-1pm.
